Hardwood Thickness Guide:
What 4/4, 5/4, 8/4, 12/4, etc. mean
Quarter sizing is a traditional hardwood standard based on rough thickness. Surfaced boards (S2S) are planed for smoother faces, which reduces the final thickness. S2S = surfaced/planed on two faces. Final thickness can vary slightly based on milling and moisture content.
